Today I accomplished a first for me–I ran in the snow! Sure I’ve “run” in the snow before…during snowball fights and back up the hill to take another sled run…but I have never laced up my sneakers and donned my running gear to prepare for a snowy winter run. It was great!
A group from my church was planning to meet at the trail at 7:30 a.m. and two of us were crazy enough to show up. But it was perfect…not only to get out there and feel winter around me, but also to make a new running buddy. I did not expect to see many others on the trail, but was I ever wrong. While there were no bike riders to worry about it was almost as crowded as summer time trail running in Northern Virginia (ok, I’m exaggerating) but there surprisingly were quite a few out there braving the elements which really weren’t so bad once you got used to snow blowing in your face and a cold nose. I appreciated good conversation and the peacefulness in the air that defines a winter wonderland.
