Exercise routine rut? Try a hybrid!


And that’s just what yogalates had in mind for the person who couldn’t decide whether she should go for yoga or pilates today.  What a great blending it is indeed.  My yogalates class tonight focused on breathing, posture and building muscles in the body’s core, namely the abdominal region.  Yoga poses like Downward Facing Dog were incorporated with pilates-style lunges and other strength building exercises that worked my balance and flexibility. 

What I noticed most during this class was how mindful I was throughout the hour.  At the gym I’ve done similar types of exercises to work my arms, legs, and abdominal muscles, but I was not as focused on them in the same way.  This class has shown me that working out is not just a means to an end, but an art that should be appreciated along the way.  After all, our bodies are temples so we should take pride in keeping them in top form.
