Fitness Trends

With the new year comes everyone getting into their groove by hitting the gym and eating healthy.  It’s also a time to reflect on  last year’s trends and ponder whether they will make it through to the next.  Here are the trends I found on FitSugar, a popular fitness and health blog (Trendy Fitness, Popular Trends of 2010, 12/29/10):

Barefoot running (see my 1/19 post)

Dance (Zumba, Barre Ballet, etc.)

Equipment Free Workouts (using your own body weight to build those muscles, i.e. pushups, squats, lunges, etc., in my opinion these are the kinds of exercises that will help build a strong core and the beauty is they can be done in the comfort of your own home.)

Yoga hybrid (I already knew that yogalates existed, but apparently yoga mixes well with many other forms of sport.  A few of the hot crazes: snowga–yoga on the ski slopes, paddleboard yoga–yoga on the water, and koga–yoga and kickboxing)

Competing in a triathlon (you mix three sports and feel “bad ass”; for now I’ll stick to just a marathon)

CrossFit (Although I know little about this type of workout except that kettleballs are one of the many tools in its toolbox, I’m adding this “trend” to the list as it seems to be gaining more and more popularity)

So which trends will last in 2011 and which ones are out?  What are you seeing that seems to fit the trendy mold this year?  I’d love to get your opinions!
